Artist's Biography

CARKY AINLAY

Born: Oak Park, Illinois
Resided: Vancouver, BC; Chicago, IL; Suva, Fiji
Currently Resides: Kailua, Hawaii


Education:

  • York House School (private high school w/independent art study, emphasis Painting)
  • Banff School of Fine Arts (summer session – Painting)
  • Vancouver Art School (summer session – Lithography)
  • School of the Art Institute of Chicago (majored in Painting and Printmaking)


Teaching:

  • Peace Corps Volunteer – developed and taught first art curriculum for local high schools for 3 years, Suva, Fiji
  • "Visiting Artist" Catalina Island School (summer session)
  • Taught Adult Art Education class, Vancouver, BC
  • Taught Painting Boys’ & Girls’ Club after school program, Kailua, HI


Experience:
- Exhibited Hawaii Watercolor Society Juried shows 2008, 2009, 2020. Won awards 2008, 2009,2010.
- Two person show Ho'omaluhia Gallery, Kaneohe, HI March 2010.
- Work in many private collections.

  • Worked as a practicing artist while living in Fiji and did many commissions for hotels, businesses and schools.
  • Exhibited as one artist of a 2 Person Show at the Fiji Museum, Suva, Fiji. Works included paintings and mixed media.
  • Worked as a practicing artist while living in Vancouver, BC. Private sales to many collectors.

Recent Continuing Education and Workshop Participation:
  • Carky has studied painting with the following instructors: Roger Whitlock, Alvaro Castagnet, Ann Pember, Barbara Nechis, George Woollard, Chuck Davis, Gay Jefferson, Peggy Chun, Helen Iaea, Stephen Quiller, Doug Lew, On Seung Kim, Jane Hoffsteder, Rita Auerbach, Judi Betts and others
